Chorley Hack is a FREE coding competition for 9-13 year olds in Chorley
14 local schools will attend Chorley Town Hall on Friday 8th March for a fun day of coding with the aim to Hack a solution to a digital challenge to win great prizes.
Why a Hack Event?
As a Council we have been successfully providing free digital skills sessions to residents to allow them to benefit from the opportunities that being online can bring, with over 1000 residents attending courses in the last 12 months.
This Hack Event will target the younger generation and future workforce. As technology develops it is essential that young people are encouraged to and supported to use technology. The majority of jobs in the future will be digital based with a certain skill set required to succeed such as animation, design in engineering and software development.
This fun coding competition will not only provide young people with the opportunity to develop their skills using technology and encourage team working; it will also assist with the development of other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) skills.
In a forever growing digital world the challenge of staying safe online is key. Teams will be challenged to create a game or animation that educates other young people about cyber bullying, online safety and social media safety.
This event could not run without the generous support of our partners/sponsors. We have teamed up with some local digital companies and other national tech firms that are kindly providing volunteers/mentors for the day to inspire and support the teams, as well as donating some superb tech prizes for the winning teams including; coding books, Amazon Alexa's and Virtual Reality experience days.
THANK YOU to all our prize sponsors, partners, volunteers and supporters
