  • Why a Hack Event?

As a Council we have been successfully providing free digital skills sessions to residents to allow them to benefit from the opportunities that being online can bring, with over 1000 residents attending courses in the last 12 months.

This Hack Event will target the younger generation and future workforce. As technology develops it is essential that young people are encouraged to and supported to use technology. The majority of jobs in the future will be digital based with a certain skill set required to succeed such as animation, design in engineering and software development.

This fun coding competition allowed young people in Chorley to develop their skills using technology, speak to digital sector professionals and also to practice team working and problem solving in real life mock up working environment. The event also helped young people to develop STEM skills (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) essential skills for our future workforce.

  • The Challenge

In a forever growing digital world the challenge of staying safe online is key. Teams were challenged to create a game or animation that educates other young people about cyber bullying, online safety and social media safety. The results were mind-blowing with outstanding projects being produced.

  • Our Partners

This event could not run without the generous support of our partners/sponsors. We teamed up with some local digital companies and other national tech firms that kindly provided mentors for the day to support and inspire the young people in attendance. We had some superb tech prizes donated by sponsors such as; coding books, virtual reality days, Amazon echo's and Fitbit watches.

THANK YOU to all our prize sponsors, partners, volunteers and supporters
