Local land charges
The Local Land Charges Register and the searches were introduced by the Land Charges Act 1925. A Local Land Charge search is required to ensure that a purchaser of land or property is not caught out by the existence of obligations or 'charges', which are binding on successive owners or occupiers of land and property.
Any charges registered on a Local Land Charges Register would not normally be disclosed in the title deeds or by an inspection of the property itself. Local Land Charges may be of a financial or non-financial nature.
You can access our new land charges service online which will allow searches to be submitted and retrieved online.

For searches submitted via post the turnaround time is 10 days.
Do I need a plan?
Two copies of the O.S. plan showing property boundaries outlined in red are required for all searches, preferably on 1:1250 scale.
How do I get a copy document referred to in the search result?
If you require a copy of a document referred to on a Local Land Charge, please email email@example.com attaching a copy of the relevant schedule from the LLC1 form and the search reference number. The search reference number can be located from the top right hand corner of the search documentation. Upon receipt of the request the relevant document will be located and a production fee will be calculated. Documents are not sent out until the fee is received.
Do you answer drainage questions?
No, you need to contact United Utilities.
What areas do you cover?
We cover all places in the Borough of Chorley.
Can I obtain a copy of a search?
If a copy of a recently made local authority search is required a fee will be charged. Documents are not sent out until the fee is received. Copy searches are only available to the submitting party.
Do you do expedited searches for an extra fee?
No, our turnaround times are fast enough not to need an expedited search.
Do you do Commons Registration Searches?
These used to be dealt with by Lancashire County Council, but can now be obtained by requesting Enquiry No. 22 on the CON 29O form.
