Apply for an allotment plot
Allotments are very popular, because of this we have an allotment waiting list. Before you apply for your first plot you should consider your health and physical ability and the time commitment you can make – an allotment can take a great deal of time and investment, especially in the first few years and you will need to maintain your motivation.
To apply for an allotment you will need to:
- be aged over 18,
- be a resident of Chorley and
- ideally know the name of the allotment site or sites you wish to apply for
Plots are allocated by date order on the list to your preferred allotment site. It is currently taking around 5 years from joining the waiting list to getting an allotment plot. If you join the allotment waiting list, please make sure you let us know if your details change so we can still contact you.
Anyone wishing to place their name on the waiting list should contact us by email to allotments@chorley.gov.uk or by calling 01257 515151.
Please provide the following information:
- full name
- address, (you must live in the Chorley borough)
- a day time telephone number
- an email address
- please let us know if you have a preference for any particular allotment site
More information is available on our allotments policy.
If you live in the parish of Coppull, Whittle-le-Woods or Euxton (including parts of Buckshaw Village) you could alternatively put your name on the waiting list of the sites below through the following contacts.
Other allotment sites are available, they are managed by:

Demand for allotments
We have recently experienced a huge surge in demand and there are over 415 people on our lists. The length of time people wait for a plot varies with the site but they don't become free very often.
We will not provide automatic updates on your position on the waiting list in the interim.
While you wait, you could get involved with local food growing, wildlife conservation and gardening groups instead. These are community led projects managed on a voluntary basis by people with a shared ambition to grow, live sustainably and make the Borough a nicer, brighter, beautiful place to live.

Allotment sites coming soon
We do not have any new allotments sites being created in the short term but we are working to allocate council land and work with parish councils and private landowners to make future provision where possible.
Allotment Plot Offer
When your name gets to the top of the site waiting list we will contact you when a plot becomes available by email and then phone if we don't hear back from you. We will use the contact details you have provided, so please ensure you inform us of any changes or you could lose your place on the list.
Once you are contacted with an offer to view an allotment, you will have 14 days to visit the site and accept the plot before we withdraw the offer. We appreciate a quick response to avoid plots getting overgrown.
The weekend is usually a good time to visit. It is always advisable to visit the site and see the plot before you sign the tenancy agreement so you can see exactly where it is and what condition it is in.
If no response is received, we will assume that you are no longer interested in having an allotment and will remove your details from the waiting list.
