Hazardous waste and asbestos

Some types of waste are harmful to health and the environment and you should never put them in your bin. You must take the following types of waste to a local recycling centre (tip).

• asbestos
• Batteries
• household chemicals
• waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)
• pressurised gas cyclinders

Batteries can also be taken back to large retailers for recycling. Shops that sell more than 32kg of batteries a year are required to provide battery recycling collection facilities in store. This means there are now lots more places where you can take your old batteries for recycling.

Anything with a plug, battery or cable can be reused or recycled.  Find your nearest donation or recycling point here

Asbestos removal

Asbestos is a hazardous substance and should never be disposed of in your general waste bin.
