Hate Crime and incidents

Hate crimes are targeted at a person because of hostility or prejudice towards that person's:

• disability
• race or ethnicity
• religion or belief
• sexual orientation
• transgender identity.

The behaviour can be committed against a person or property, and a victim does not have to be a member of the group at which the hostility is targeted. A hate incident can almost feel like a crime but where the law may not have been broken.
