Chorley Council is pleased to announce additional public swimming hours at Brinscall Swimming Pool, starting Sunday 1 February.
These new sessions build on the existing timetable and reflect the council’s commitment to increasing access to local leisure facilities.
From Sunday 1 February, residents will now be able to enjoy extra public swim sessions at the following times:
- Thursdays: 7am to 9am and 12 noon to 1pm
- Sundays: 10am to 2pm
These sessions are in addition to the current opening hours already available at the pool.
Groups and community hire bookings will continue to be welcomed during non‑public swim times, ensuring the pool remains a vibrant hub for local clubs and community activity.
The council’s long-term vision for the facility is to open more public swim hours and is currently exploring the possibility of introducing an early‑evening session on one or more weekdays. The council also hopes to welcome greater use from specialist health and wellbeing groups, such as Aquanatal classes, Chronic Pain Support Groups and Cancer Pre‑hab sessions, particularly within the 9am to 12pm period. These activities would run in partnership with colleagues across health and wellbeing services to make the most of the pool’s potential as a community resource.
To support the extended timetable and future growth, the council is looking to recruit additional staff and to create new job opportunities for people. Expanding the team will help ensure the pool can continue to offer high‑quality, accessible services as demand increases. We can also offer training to the right individuals as part of the recruitment process, helping them to gain the skills they need. We welcome the support of residents and if you know someone who may be interested in joining the team, please encourage them to get in touch with us.
Cabinet Member for Early Intervention, which includes leisure centres, Councillor Beverly Murray, said: “I'm incredibly grateful to our Chorley North East ward councillors who have worked hard to make these extended opening hours a reality.
“Brinscall Swimming Pool is a much‑loved and much‑needed facility, and we’re proud to continue investing significant resources to secure its future for the community.
“We’re delighted to be able to offer these additional public swim sessions, with even more to come as we keep developing the timetable. This is a real step forward for the village, and I’m pleased we can continue strengthening a facility that so many residents rely on.
“These improvements also mean we can create new job opportunities for people and offer them training which is fantastic news. It’s a positive step that helps us grow and support our community.”
