Mayor and Mayoress of Chorley

Chorley's Mayor, Councillor Alistair Morwood and Mayoress Jane Morwood were formally sworn in at Chorley Council's annual meeting on Tuesday 13 May 2025.

Councillor Morwood was first elected for the Chorley Northeast Ward in 2014 and still is currently one of three councillors representing the new Ward of Chorley North and Astley.

Last year he became the Chair of the Friends of St Laurence’s Church supporting the church in reaching out to the community and raising funds for a range of projects. This included the partial restoration of the organ.

In his spare time, the Mayor enjoys ballroom dancing, playing acoustic guitar and reading, mainly history.

During his tenure the Mayor has opted to support and fundraise for Chorley and District Mencap, Chorley Heritage Centre, Chorley Fairtrade and Chorley Shopmobility.

The Mayor of Chorley said, “As Mayor and Mayoress we are both looking forward to meeting and supporting as many groups as we can. We will take every opportunity to promote Chorley as a great place to live, work, visit and enjoy.

“It is a thriving town, with vibrant villages and beautiful countryside with fantastic history and heritage.”

Deputy Mayor is Councillor Debra Platt and her Consort, Councillor Alan Platt.
