Nature and Biodiversity - Tree planting

Together with our partners, landowners and residents, we set a target to plant 116k trees in Chorley by 2025 - that's one for every resident! By March 2025 we had planted over 180,000 trees across the Borough which is a great achievement.  Read our Emergency Tree Plan for more information.

Tree giveaway

As part of our committment to improve the environment we have run tree giveways each each year from 2020 to 2025.  If you collected a free tree or hedgerow plant for your garden we would love to know how it is getting on.  Please share your photos to parks@chorley.gov.uk

Your saplings

Do you have self seeded native tree saplings in your garden growing in the borders or pots?  These are species such as English Oak, Hawthorn, Hazel, Yew, Holly, Elder, Blackthorn, Mountain Ash, Silver Birch and Field Maple.    Do they need a new home?  Please save them and keep them watered over the summer.  They can be dug up when dormant over the winter from November through to March to be moved.   We have a tree nursery that is waiting to be filled at The Willows, Eaves Green Chorley, PR7 3RQ. Please go along when you can, take a trowel and plant it in the raised beds. The trees will then be relocated with big enough to a new home in the woodlands close by.
