You may have seen our “Making it happen in Chorley” branding around the borough but what does it mean, and what is the council doing?

Here at Chorley Council, we are proud of the work we do every day to improve the lives of our residents, support local businesses, enhance our communities and deliver more for our area. We are working hard to deliver more for the people of Chorley.

We are committed to action, delivery, and progress.

We are not just planning for the future, we are actively making things happen right now. Whether it’s new housing developments, community support programmes, environmental initiatives, or town centre regeneration, the council wants residents to see and feel the difference.

You will spot the branding on signs, banners, shop front windows and businesses we work with and social media - wherever the council is delivering something that matters to Chorley.

The ethos behind it

“Making it happen” represents:

  • responsiveness to community needs
  • collaboration with partners and residents
  • innovation in how we deliver services
  • pride in our borough and its potential

It’s also a reflection of the council’s ambition to be the best for our businesses, best for our communities, and best for our borough. These ambitions are at the heart of Chorley Council’s Corporate Strategy, which sets out priorities to:

  • support our residents to live healthy and happy lives
  • create a thriving economy where businesses can grow and succeed
  • deliver high-quality public services that meet the needs of our communities
  • protect and enhance our environment for future generations
  • be a council that makes a difference through strong leadership and partnership working

We are committed to making a real difference across the borough by working closely with our communities, investing in our public spaces, and supporting local initiatives that improve quality of life.

Through the Chorley Together partnership, we collaborate with voluntary, community, and faith groups to tackle key issues such as social isolation, financial hardship, and health inequalities. We also offer a range of targeted grants, to help residents and organisations deliver meaningful local projects such as our Warm Spaces Programme Fund, offering welcoming venues during colder months, helping residents stay safe and connected.

Our parks and open spaces remain a top priority. We continue to invest in the maintenance and improvement of green areas, play spaces, and recreational facilities through initiatives and these efforts ensure that Chorley remains a clean, safe, and welcoming place for everyone.

Maintaining the borough is a year-round effort. From street cleaning and weed control to supporting anti-social behaviour reduction schemes, we are focused on keeping Chorley vibrant and well cared for. We also offer business improvement and upskilling grants to help local enterprises grow and thrive.

All of this is underpinned by a strong commitment to partnership working. Whether it’s supporting local events, engaging with residents through consultations, or working with schools and health services, we are focused on delivering services that reflect the needs and aspirations of our communities.

“Making it happen in Chorley” is how we bring these priorities to life visibly, tangibly, and proudly.
