Councillor Debra Platt was formally sworn in as Mayor of Chorley for 2026/27 on 19 May 2026.
Councillor Debra Platt was first elected to Chorley Council in 2008 and has represented the Euxton area for several terms. She was most recently re-elected to the newly created Croston, Mawdesley and Euxton South ward, which also includes the villages of Bretherton and Ulnes Walton.
With a career in local government spanning more than 25 years, Debra began working for Euxton Parish Council in 1999, a role she continues to hold. She has also served Astley Village Parish Council for 15 years and Bretherton Parish Council for three years. In addition, she works with the Lancashire Association of Local Councils, where she provides advice and support to councils across Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside.
Debra also plays an active role nationally as a Director of the Society of Local Council Clerks, supporting clerks in their professional development, and as a Triage Officer for the National Association of Local Councils’ Local Council Award Scheme.
Since 2022, she has served as a trustee of both the Chorley Consolidated Charity and The Chorley Relief Fund charity
The Mayor of Chorley said, “I am truly honoured to take on the role of Mayor of Chorley.
“It is a privilege to serve our borough and represent our communities.
“I, along with my Consort, my husband Alan, look forward to working with residents, businesses and partners to celebrate all that makes Chorley such a special place, its diversity from beautiful village settings to its busy town centre, its heritage and countryside, while supporting the causes and organisations that make a real difference to people’s lives.”
During her tenure, the Mayor has opted to support and fundraise for three charities.
- Boot Out Breast Cancer - which raises money for new and innovative equipment to help patients in the Chorley area, following recovering from Breast Cancer herself in recent years.
- Guide Dogs for the Blind - raising money for their mission to help people with sight loss live the life they choose.
- Central Lancashire Deaf Children's Society - supports Deaf children and their families by providing free events, peer connections, and sign language learning opportunities to build confidence and reduce isolation. The Mayor’s support will directly help to continue providing this life-changing peer support across the county.
The Mayor’s Consort is husband Councillor Alan Platt, and the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress is Councillor Aaron Beaver and his wife Mrs Christine Beaver.
