Eight of Chorley’s parks and open spaces have been awarded a coveted Green Flag Award, two more than last year!

Carr Brook Nature Trail and Tatton Recreation Ground this year join historic award-winning sites; Astley Park, Withnell Linear Park Nature Reserve, Harpers Recreation Ground, Rangletts Recreation Ground, Yarrow Valley Country Park and Coronation Recreation Ground in receiving the prestigious award.

Councillor Adrian Lowe, Executive Member of Chorley Council (Customer and Streetscene Services) said, “Once again we have proved in Chorley that we have some of the absolute best parks and open spaces in the country.

“To now welcome two more areas into our Green Flag Award winning portfolio is a proud moment, and it testament to all those who work hard each and every day to keep our parks and open spaces beautifully maintained and enjoyable for all.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has a hand in maintaining our award-winning parks and open spaces, enabling Chorley’s to be recognised as the country’s best and allowing residents and visitors to have spaces that we can all be proud of”.

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for their management across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Councillor Lowe continued, “As we head into the summer months, now is a great time to visit and enjoy our award-winning parks.

“In July Astley Park will play host to the annual Chorley Flower Show (on 26-28) and on 2 August, ‘Theatre In The Park’ returns to the borough with ‘The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck’ by Quantum Theatre and on 7 September, ‘Last Night of the Proms’ with Outreach Opera will fill the park with music.
