Visitors enjoying an event in Astley Park

Latest data from Marketing Lancashire indicates positive signs for Chorley’s visitor economy with an increase in visitor numbers.

The recently released STEAM data, shows that visitor numbers to Chorley borough reached 3.12m in 2023, up from 3.09m the previous year.  

Deputy Leader of Chorley Council, Councillor Peter Wilson said “This latest data is really encouraging and we’re striving to get even more visitors to come to Chorley over the coming years.   

“As part of our recently launched Destination Management Plan for Chorley, actions have been set out for the next five years, working towards Chorley becoming a top visitor destination. We’re looking forward to seeing the results of these actions and working with partners in the borough so together we can shout about the fantastic attractions Chorley has to offer and help drive visitor numbers.”  

Across Lancashire there were an estimated 66.7m tourism visitors to the region, up by 2.8% from the previous year, with Chorley contributing 5% and it’s no wonder with the variety of places to visit in the borough.  

Visitors travel from far and wide to Chorley’s fabulous year-round events programme including the Chorley Flower Show and for great days out at the many attractions such as Astley Hall, Rivington, Chorley Markets and many more.  

Not only did visitors benefit from seeing Chorley’s fabulous attractions during their time in the borough they also supported employment.  

The expenditure and activity of visitors supported a total of 2,038 full-time equivalent jobs - an increase of over 6% on the previous year - a higher increase than that of Lancashire as a whole (+4.6%).
