A new Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) action plan has been created by Chorley Council to raise standards, protect neighbourhoods, and support both tenants and responsible landlords.
The plan, which was presented at Chorley’s full council meeting last week, comes in response to the rise in HMOs across the borough, with some properties reported falling below acceptable living standards.
It sets out clear actions to improve living conditions, supports responsible landlords and ensures accommodation is high quality and has a positive impact on the community.
Leader of Chorley Council, Councillor Alistair Bradley said: “We know there has been a rise in HMOs across Chorley.
“While they play an important role in offering affordable housing, some properties have fallen short of acceptable standards, affecting both tenants and the wider community.
“We have heard our residents' concerns and that is why we have developed this new plan.
“We are taking a proactive stance to making sure accommodation is safe and well-managed.
“We are committed to working with landlords and residents to build stronger and safer communities for everyone in Chorley.”
