Chorley Council is celebrating after receiving eight Green Flag Awards for its parks and open spaces.

The sites are one of 2,250 in the UK to achieve the award, which is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

Astley Park, Yarrow Valley Country Park, Coronation Recreation Ground, Rangletts Recreation Ground, Harpers Recreation Ground, Tatton Gardens, Carr Brook Linear Park and Withnell Nature Reserve has met the standards required for the accreditation and the awards recognise the borough’s commitment to providing outstanding parks and open spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy.

The Green Flag Awards demonstrate the council’s commitment to delivering high-quality, well-maintained green spaces for the community.

Executive Member for Customer, Streetscene and Environment, Councillor Adrian Lowe, said: “We are incredibly proud to see so many of our parks recognised with the Green Flag Award.

“It’s a testament to the hard work of our teams and volunteers who keep these spaces welcoming, safe, and beautiful for everyone to enjoy.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in Chorley Council who have worked tirelessly to ensure that it achieves the high standards required for the Green Flag Award.

“Quality parks and green spaces like the sites named above make the country a heathier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest.

“Crucially, the above sites are vital green spaces for communities in Lancashire to enjoy nature, and during the ongoing cost of living crisis it is a free and safe space for families to socialise. It also provides important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space.”
