Chorley Council’s Corporate Strategy for the upcoming year has been approved, setting out the council’s key priorities, focusing on the issues that matter most to residents to ensure Chorley is in the best possible position for the future.
There are four elements to the council’s vision which are to provide:
- Housing where residents can live well
- A green and sustainable borough
- An enterprising economy with vibrant local centres and rural areas
- Healthy, safe, and engaged communities
The strategy includes commitments to ensure good quality housing for all, to support our most vulnerable residents and to ensure that residents of all ages can access the services they need, physically or digitally.
The council pledges to support business growth and expansion in urban and rural areas and work with partners to support skills development and innovation. The green economy will continue to be supported, and Chorley will continue to be promoted as a key visitor destination with regionally recognised events.
Councillor Peter Wilson, Deputy Leader of Chorley Council said, “Developing the corporate strategy is a critical piece of work for us each year as it allows us to set in place our plans to ensure the borough and our communities continue to thrive.
“Over the last year we’ve delivered against our objectives, making change happen across the borough. We have begun our refurbishment work to All Seasons Leisure Centre, continued to deliver our cost-of-living action plan, and delivered a successful anti-social behaviour action plan.
“The Central Lancashire Local Plan has been submitted to Government – to ensure future development in the borough is sustainable – and we’ve work hard to improve the effectiveness of social housing provision in the borough.
“We’ve achieved record-attendance at events such as Chorley Flower Show and have successfully launched our destination management plan to grow the visitor economy.
“This year we will continue to build on this work with a plan that is varied and flexible to allow us to support as many people as we can while driving Chorley forward.”
Some of the key strategy projects which will be progressing in the new year are:
- Completion of the delivery of temporary accommodation at Gillibrand Street to support families facing homelessness
- Continue the delivery of the town centre transformation
- Maximise the availability of affordable housing in the borough
- Provide support to the voluntary and community sector across Chorley
- Reduce the number of those in the borough not in education, employment, or training
- Continued delivery of the Destination Management Plan
Councillor Wilson continues, “Local government reorganisation is on the horizon, but in the meantime, we will continue to deliver excellent services to our residents. We are working with colleagues across Lancashire to ensure any future proposals remain connected to communities and commit to kickstarting economic growth for the county.
“We’ve got a lot of exciting things ahead, alongside delivering our excellent day-to-day services and I have no doubt that we can continue to make a real difference for the people of Chorley over the next 12 months.”
