Chorley Council has approved the new Climate Change Strategy 2025-2030.

It sets out a clear framework for reducing carbon emissions, protecting the environment, and supporting residents and businesses to adapt to the challenges of climate change.

The strategy outlines how the council will:

  • Work towards net zero carbon emissions in line with national targets.
  • Promote sustainable transport and energy use, including investment in greener infrastructure.
  • Support biodiversity and nature recovery, ensuring Chorley’s green spaces are protected and enhanced.
  • Engage with communities and businesses to encourage climate‑friendly practices and raise awareness.

Cabinet Member for Customer, Streetscene and Environment, Councillor Adrian Lowe, said: “This strategy is about making sure Chorley plays its part in tackling the global climate emergency. We want to lead by example, reduce our own emissions, and support residents and businesses to do the same.

“Approving this strategy is an important milestone, but the real work starts now as we put these commitments into action.”

The strategy sets out a clear pathway to net zero which sets out 43 actions focused on energy, transport, biodiversity, waste, and community engagement. It will be put into action straight away and progress will be tracked and shared so people can see how things are moving forward. Working hand‑in‑hand with local partners, residents and businesses, everyone will play a part in meeting Chorley’s climate goals.
