The Data Protection Act 2018 gives individuals the right to ask Chorley Council (or any other Public Authority) whether or not we hold information about them, and to ask for a copy of the information. This is known as a Subject Access Request. The individual who is the subject of the requested data is known as the data subject.

Make a Subject Access Request

To submit a subject access request, please email foi@chorley.gov.uk.

Please note you may be required to send in proof of identity before your request is processed, you will be advised how to do this when your request has been acknowledged.

How we deal with your requests

We must respond to your request within 1 month. However, this period does not start until the we are satisfied about your identity, and have enough detail to locate the information you are seeking.

There may be an extension of up to 3 months if the request is complex or voluminous.

Please note that any attempt to obtain personal data unlawfully may lead to prosecution.

If you are not the data subject or acting on behalf of the data subject (with their written consent) but are attempting to gain access to information that you are not entitled, you will breach Data Protection legislation.

The details you provide on the subject access request form will be disclosed to officers dealing with your request and will be used within Chorley Borough Council to validate, locate and review your information.

We will retain your request for a period of 1 year from receipt of your request.
