Discretionary Council Tax Rebate

The Government has provided Chorley Council with a limited amount of discretionary funding to support vulnerable residents on low incomes who do not pay Council Tax or are living in property valued in bands E to H.  

We have designed a targeted scheme to provide a one-off discretionary payment to support vulnerable and low-income households in the following groups: 


Discretionary Council Tax Rebate payment 

Households in band E - H in receipt of Council Tax Support on 1 April 2022   £150 
Households in band E - H in receipt of a Council Tax disregard on 1 April 2022 because a resident is a carer or severely mentally impaired £150 
Households in band F - H in receipt of Disabled Relief on 1 April 2022 £150 
A top up payment to all Council Tax Support claimants£22.30


Apply for the Discretionary Council Tax Rebate

The Discretionary Council Tax Rebate will automatically be paid into the bank account of eligible households by 31 August 2022 if you pay Council Tax by direct debit, or the mandatory Council Tax Rebate has already been paid to you. The payment will show on bank accounts/statements as CHORLEY BC CR.

All other eligible households will receive a letter or email by 30 September 2022 with details of how to Apply for the Discretionary Council Tax Rebate

You will need your Council Tax reference number for the property you occupied on 1 April 2022 which you can find on your bill.  

You may choose to receive the Discretionary Council Tax Rebate to your bank account or as a credit to your Council Tax account. 

We aim to make payment within 14 days of receiving your completed application. 

Completed applications should be received by 1 November 2022 to allow sufficient time for eligible payments to be processed by the discretionary scheme closing date of 30 November 2022.
