Chorley Council’s strategy for the upcoming year has been approved, mapping out the council’s plans and key projects focusing on the issues that matter most to residents to ensure Chorley is in the best possible position for the future.

There are four elements to the council’s vision which are to provide:

  • Housing where residents can live well
  • A green and sustainable borough
  • An enterprising economy with vibrant local centres and rural areas
  • Healthy, safe and engaged communities

The strategy includes commitments  to transform the town centre, to improve housing standards and tackle homelessness, support residents with their wellbeing and the cost-of-living challenges, and drive economic growth in the borough. Alongside this, the strategy also details how the council will continue to work towards a Net Zero borough by 2030.

Alistar Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council said, “Developing the corporate strategy is a critical piece of work for us each year as it allows us to set in place our plans to be able to support the borough and help our communities continue to thrive.

“The strategy shows people what we’re aiming to achieve, and what we’ll do to make it happen. We also make it clear how we will measure our progress.

“We know that the needs of the borough and our community are complex, and we need to have a strategy in place which is varied and flexible to allow us to support as many people as we can while driving Chorley forward.”

Some of the key strategy projects which will be progressing in the new year are:

  • The transformation of the town centre following significant government funding which will see a new town square, business and residential areas
  • Refurbishment work to All Seasons Leisure Centre to improve our facilities
  • A jobs and skills programme to support people back and into the workplace
  • A continued programme of work to replace bus shelters across the borough to promote sustainable transport
  • The promotion of Chorley as a great place to visit to boost footfall and the visitor economy

Councillor Bradley continued, “We’ve got a lot of exciting things ahead, alongside delivering our excellent day-to-day services and I have no doubt that we can continue make a real difference for the people of Chorley.”
