Statement about Lancastrian Suite
29 November 2023
Councillor Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council said:
"Following some minor water ingress to the Town Hall during recent heavy rains, repairs were commissioned to take place this week with suitable scaffolding erected. This has enabled closer inspection of internal surfaces and unfortunately a number of cracks were found on the ceiling of the Lancastrian Suite. Regrettably and as a direct result, we have had to make the decision to close the room to the public and cancel a number of forthcoming bookings as a precaution. This is really disappointing, however trust that hirers and the public realise it is something out of our control.
"We are working with contractors to undertake the necessary works as soon as possible and once we know the timescales involved, we'll be able to provide a further update. In the meantime, we have cancelled all room bookings for the Lancastrian Suite until the end of January 2024."
"We have contacted hirers and are providing assistance including re-booking the venue for a future date and offering advice on moving to alternative venues.
"For those who have booked to attend our Town Hall Pantomime on Sunday 17 December, we will be in touch with further information in due course."
